Client Background
Elko County School District (ECSD) in Elko, Nevada, serves 19 schools and nearly 1,700 eligible members, including employees, spouses, dependents, retirees, and retiree families. With a workforce that is slightly older than average, on-site wellness offerings were especially important to ensure inclusivity for those less likely to engage with digital-only alternatives. The district’s nine-month schedule also places health risk assessments (HRAs) and biometric screenings in the few weeks leading up to the school year.
The Challenge
ECSD needed a simple program to engage their population. The district operated with a lean HR team and a modest budget, which left little capacity for complex administration. Any solution had to be manageable, predictable in cost, and easy to communicate and track without adding work to the school-year rush.
Access was an equally significant barrier. Elko County is the second largest county in Nevada, and its schools and families are spread across a wide, rural region with limited local wellness services. Long travel distances and dispersed sites made county-wide events impractical, so resources had to be delivered on each campus. Digital components also needed to be straightforward for quick adoption. Essentially, the district needed wellness offerings available where staff already were and aligned to the school calendar.
The Healthbreak Solution
Healthbreak partnered closely with ECSD to design a program that was easy to administer. The approach was intentionally high touch during screenings and light touch in day-to-day operations. Acting as an extension of ECSD, our team coordinated the annual wellness calendar, managed vendors, and delivered clear, timely communications. The program design minimized daily administrative demands, maintained predictable costs, and provided flexibility to scale as results grew.
Because Elko County has few local wellness providers, Healthbreak brought access directly on-site. In partnership with a screening partner, we coordinated a three-day on-campus screening event and health fair, including a weekend session to reach spouses and dependents.
We also measured what mattered. Clear reporting on enrollment, engagement, and risk cohorts, guided quarterly adjustments and kept efforts focused on the highest-impact groups.
To provide ECSD with a single, easy-to-use hub that fit their needs, Healthbreak recommended Personify Health. The platform gives each person a straightforward, mobile-friendly place to manage their wellness: they can store and review biometric results over time, complete the 106-question Health Risk Assessment, and sync devices to join challenges and connect with coworkers. Using Personify as their wellness hub kept engagement clear and consistent without adding extra administrative steps.

ECSD opted for an easy-to-manage plan and it delivered measurable gains across access, activity, and risk reduction.

Why It Matters
In a geographically remote county, dispersed schools and limited wellness services made convenience essential. Healthbreak’s approach brought resources on-site, aligned with the school calendar, and kept engagement clear for educators and families The result: meaningful gains in access, daily activity, and risk reduction without adding administrative burden. This demonstrates that starting small can move the needle and scale with results.
"Healthbreak has been very willing to modify and be flexible around the needs of the district. For example, additional days, working through the remote location of the district and assisting with challenges, as well as working with the biometric screening vendor to assure service, dependability and accuracy of the screenings. Healthbreak’s flexibility has been key to our success."
